If you’re like most people in LA, you’re wondering what the heck has happened to our country’s politics and why it seems so difficult to tackle our society’s biggest challenges — massive inequality, climate change, weak support for mothers and families, repressive policing and incarceration — the list goes on. Since the election, it’s become even more urgent to understand the system. This series of 6 conversations will introduce you to everything you wanted to know about how our political system works but were afraid to ask.

The first two sessions will discuss the basics of how our government at the federal, state, county and city levels. The third will be an overview of LA politics — where our major social and environmental challenges came from and how several generations of of activists managed to turn a deep red county deep blue. The last three sessions will be conversations about three of the most pressing issues facing us in Los Angeles now and how we can make a difference.

This series is led by David Levitus.

David recently founded LA Forward to enable a rising generation of Angelenos to campaign for policies that will make our city and state more just and sustainable. He has spent 15 years advocating and organizing for a better world through policies at the local, state, and federal levels. Along the way, he earned a Ph.D. in History PhD focused on strategies to build progressive power and equitable cities. He’s also a delegate to the California Democratic Party.
